you've been asking to see more of my new surroundings ::

Laurelhurst Park :: 27 acres of natural beauty inside the city, with winding roads, pond,  and play areas, just about 1 mile from our house.

 

i took a walk just before sunset yesterday.  the park is a riot of color (the leaves change a bit later & stay awhile longer than back east)

 

the park has a totally different feel this time of year, gone are the concerts and activities, left is an urban oasis

dusk settled to quickly :: the feeling of quiet beauty is one i would have liked to enjoy a bit longer

out & about...a cape cod vacation

thinking about a summer vacation on cape cod?
how about a vacation in a lighthouse.

The Wings Neck Lighthouse is an incredibly unique and historic property
Wings Neck Light was built in 1849. For many years, Wings Neck was deemed one of the most important lighthouses on the Atlantic Coast because of the heavy shipping traveling the Cape Cod Canal.

Formerly a US Coast Guard Lighthouse.  The light tower still stands attached by a breezeway to a three bedroom keepers home.  Located at the tip of Wings Neck Point, in the town Pocasset on Cape Cod.

Situated literally inches from the water, the rocky slopes are beautiful and traditionally New England. The house was completely renovated in 2003 and is now available for weekly rental year round.

There are sleeping accommodations for eight. The house has three upstairs bedrooms, a full bath upstairs, a half-bath downstairs and an outdoor shower.

out & about...fun in the sun

i don't know about you..but..
today i need some fun in the sun and there is definitely no sun or fun on cape cod today...

so i'm heading to Maldives,  an island in the Indian Ocean,

 to the Conrad Rangali Island Maldives Hotel,  for a little barefoot luxury, reachable only by seaplane.

staying in a water villa, feet in the sand..toes in nice warm water

moonlight by the pool

some sweet dreams in this villa

and then waking up to more of the same

in & about...

yes,  there's another blizzard on cape cod today.

i thought it would be a good day to stay in and  share a few of the favorite corners of my home 

one,  is this little olive green vintage table by the door.  i love the color and i'm such a gatherer this is a perfect place for me to put the bits and pieces i find on my walks. 

another is the  fireplace mantel. this year for christmas i decorated with natural objects such as pine cones and driftwood and i'm so happy i did.  i found i could keep many of them up when all the other christmas decorations were taken down.

and the bay window in the living room is now holding plants and antique garden objects, shiny and light,  they brighten things up and remind me spring will eventually come (soon i hope!)

today it's an around the world daydream. somewhere it's warm and sunny...because, i could really use some sun and sand right about now.

out & about....the bear wakes up

i  love spring on cape cod.

there is a saying here "the cape doesn't have a spring"...but oh, it certainly does.

from it's quiet cave.. the bear starts to wake up from hibernation...slowly..

trees start to turn light green

daffodils start to poke up everywhere

the gulls start circling the herring runs

doors which look like they haven't been opened in a hundred years are freshly painted and swung open

the flags are hung out to  annouce the openings

and the still chilly water turns a beautiful blue green

Happy Birthday New England Bloggers

New England Bloggers is a group of bloggers from the six New England states. Elizabeth, the founder, asked me to join it's first years birthday party with a post about my little part of New England.

Well, I've never been one to turn down a party....

I live in Sandwich, Ma. on Cape Cod.  Sandwich is just over the Sagamore Bridge and is the oldest town on the Cape and one of the oldest in the country. Known for it quaint, charming village center and the Sandwich boardwalk that leads to Cape Cod Bay.

Let's take a little walk and I'll show you some of the sights.

The Sandwich Boardwalk Bridge where you can watch braver souls than me jump off at high tide

 

The view from the bridge is beautiful,  you can drop in your raft or boat and float to the bay

In the fall the marsh grass turns a stunning golden orange

The lakes are pretty spectacular too!

The Fourth of July is a true small town celebration with a terrific parade the whole town turns out for

The Fourth ends on the Pond with a concert and at night and a  lantern lit boat parade
