run by he Thornton W. Burgess Society it is a non-profit educational organization founded in 1976 to carry on the pioneering conservation work of author/naturalist Thornton W. Burgess (1874 - 1965). Mr. Burgess, who was born and grew up in Sandwich, MA., went on to achieve national and international recognition for his children’s stories that teach lessons of conservation and love of wildlife.

Over 170 books and 15,000 stories by Burgess chronicle the tales of Peter Rabbit and his animal friends.  

Through these engaging stories, generations of young people have learned about the natural world and have developed an understanding of the importance of conservation of our natural resources.

i stopped by there saturday for their herb and plant sale

and was rewarded with the wildflower gardens in full bloom

they also run wonderful programs and camps for all ages, from toddlers to adults. i've sent my grandson to a few of the summer camp programs.

or you can  join one of the jam making workshops in the 1903 kitchen

their yummy jams can also be bought at the center or online

if your in the area, it's a perfect place to unwind, walk the paths, and enjoy the beauty

if your in the market... or if your just like me and love going to open houses...well, because you just love houses...you must go to this one!

after searching for a home in sandwich for 6 months... i am somewhat of an amateur professional house stalker in town. this is my favorite house...it has everything, beautifully renovated & decorated (did i say beautiful? i hope so!)...walking distance to boardwalk & town...across from the marsh...
ok...i'll just let the pictures do the talking...

Graceful, iconic Federal architecture in the original brick Parson Ezra Goodwin House, dated 1815. Behind the front facade is a large, lovingly renovated and redecorated home. 11 rooms, 5 bedrooms, 4 full baths. This early spring view of the house shows its large extension, added in the early to mid-1900's.

introducing my new hometown

Sandwich Ma
I’ve just realized that I haven’t written one blog about my new hometown.
Which is quite unbelievable,
it took me 6 months to find a home in a town I was determined to live in!

Incorporated in 1639, Sandwich is the oldest town on Cape Cod and one of the oldest towns in the United States, settled by European immigrants nearly 150 years before the American Revolution.

So here is a short trip around Sandwich from the eyes of a newcomer.

It Is Everywhere!

On my post yesterday I talked about the color yellow.

I had very limited time left after that. So, I scurried out to only the yard sales in town.
Well,
imagine my surprise and delight when I happened upon...........

Yup, you guessed it!
A big bright bold yellow vintage Nelson Sprinkler!

It didn't take me long to snap it up.
That color is popping up everywhere!

I came across only a few other great finds. Sometimes it's not how much, but how great.
And these are great. I love them all!

Not bad for an hours work!

Might be hard for me to put these in my etsy shop.....We will just have to wait and see.

Sue finds Sea Finds

Back from the beaches of Falmouth......

Such a hard job, ha!

I can attest, the water is warmer. The sun was shining and it truly does have a different feel from some of the other Cape beaches I've been on.

Captivating in its own right. I have a feeling as I travel these areas, each will present their own but entirely different beauty.



One thing I was surprised at and happy to discover is each area
of the Cape's sea shore produces different types of sea shells.
This is a sample of shells found there. Love the earthy quality of
the shells, some have natural holes in them. These are perfect
for jewelry making and or many crafts projects. They will be in
my etsy shop soon.

Off now to plan the next destination...Happy Hunting

Off to Falmouth

Falmouth Ma

After moving to the Outer Cape it was not a spot we headed to. As a result I had not been there in a long time. Now that I am living on the Upper Cape it is a place I will visit more often.

Best known for the ferries to the Islands and the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution.

Falmouth also has a charming center, with a mix of unique shops.

Blast From The Past is a fun retro-inspired shop, with its collection of vintage lunch boxes, signs and ephemera. From the moment you walk in the door, it just makes you smile.....

Falmouth is also known for having the warmest water on the Cape. I guess a trip to a few of its beaches is in order. A girl has to do what a girl has to do...back soon!
