on thoughts and such ...

Today I'm passing along these words and thoughts from a blog i adore,  a perfect gray .
who ...passed it on from...
"I'm passing along these words from my friend Brock Street, because when I read them on his blog, I couldn't forget them...

"why, oh why am i always on the prowl for inspiration. is it because i cannot find satisfaction in my own surroundings? is it because i am not grateful for all the blessing? these are the questions i ask myself often...as if my thirst is never quenched.

i must confess the above is far from the truth. i simply am addicted to dreaming and creating and living a bit outside of my reality. aspire...not for more or better or even beauty...just an enormous appreciation...."

"My thanks to Brock Street for putting into words what I could not. " and my thanks to Donna for leading me to them.

it really does sum up quite a bit about me.

 happy weekend friends

breaking the rules

with my upcoming move i've made a few rules regarding shopping for solsticehome.

1. buy nothing large
2. buy nothing heavy
3. buy nothing breakable

and then this past saturday i attended the monthly flea in my town....

i broke them all....

large...this brass and enamel floor lamp with the fabulous turquoise color

heavy... shipping crate with soft worn wood and fabulous typography on top...

breakable... antique mirrors with the most wonderful glass...and yes,  the large box behind them is filled with lab glass....

so, you see i really couldn't resist and they will all be in the shop soon,  unless of course,  i hear you want them first. send me a note if you see something you'd like.

Question for my seller friends...how do you control what you buy?  Do you pass up fabulous finds or do you jump in and buy?
happy monday

favorite finds this week

for this weeks  favorite finds i decided to look for tiny things...all the better to fit into my packing  boxes,
pretty clever of me..don't you think?

and how clever is this;
for the nomadic writer,  the Little Nomadic Gnome. Measuring 1 x ½ ",  a tiny piece of reclaimed black leather once part of a vintage motorcycle muzzle. T. 30 sheets  of tea-stained Italian drawing paper. Hand-torn and stitched with archival linen thread,  with a  miniature authentic vintage skeleton key all in a wee wooden gnome box

a set of 2 wee bowls, also called "pinch pots" at  only 1"tall and 1 1/2"wide,   they are quite adorable

a delicate little Bavarian Bird Vase, perfect for a  flower stem or two

tiny canvas print by tushtush, it amazes me how she adds such detail on a tiny canvas, love her work

and for my readers who like things a bit larger...

an under the apple tree canopy bed - "Modern romantic Scandinavian design Sleep Therapy woodland fairy tale"  this beauty is all handmade to size... stunning....and it really does look like your sleeping in a fairytale.

what's your preference, do you like things tiny or large?

what do you have planned for this weekend ~  i'm in the middle of house projects, so i'll be working under layers of dust this weekend..i'll fill you in next week.

happy saturday

new & noted...

thought i'd share a few new products, that i've noticed lately...

black tiles and wood, a new neutral change from the white look coming? very dramatic looking.

the first large horizontal retractable screen and blind system for windows and doors... finally!

porcelain countertops, so new they are not available in the north america yet, scratch-proof, stain-proof and kid proof.  looks & sounds ideal and if it's man proof...sold!

although not new, wallpaper has been making a big comeback the last year.  this idea is for those of us who lived with it for many years and cringed when we saw this,  the removal was always a nightmare when we changed our minds.

i like framed wallpaper panels, i've actually been collecting some vintage wallpaper rolls,  this might be a new project to try.

although not for the home, it is for our world, this eco product is pretty amazing

OAT Shoes, designed in Amsterdam. These shoes are not only biodegrade, but they actually sprout trees when thrown away.  how wonderful is this!

found any new ideas you'd like to share? i'd love to hear about them.

have a great day everyone

in the garden

i was not going to start thinking about the garden yet...

but today seems like a good day for spring thoughts...that groundhog didn't see his shadow..we're promised an early spring...

then in my inbox today, White Flower Farm started tempting me with their new plants catalog..

Delphinium grandiflorum Summer Nights; Loose spikes filled with indigo-blue flowers appear all summer on compact, well-branched plants only 12in tall and butterflies love them.

Epimedium Alabaster, a ground cover: Large, pure-white flowers trimmed with purple sepals stand above the foliage in spring, and the bright, grass-green leaves stay attractive till frost.

helleborus, is one of my favorite garden plants

Helleborus x hybridus Winter Jewels™ Black Diamond this one has deep slate colored petals marked with burgundy rays. The deep maroon appearance sets off the chartreuse center to perfection.

with our house going on the market this spring, most of my planting will be annuals in containers..

Lantana camara Luscious™ Lemonade; Excellent for spilling over the edge of a container, gracing a hanging basket, or as a tough landscape plant.  i planted lantana in a container last year and loved it.

i love the fragile look of this rose.. but..no rose planting for me..until i get to portland...it's one i'll be saving in my plant files.

Rosa Penelope; Hybrid Musk Rose 'Penelope' is an old favorite from 1924. The scented flowers are followed by coral-pink hips in the fall.

all plants from White Flower Farm, with plant links below each photo.

ok.. enough of my spring daydreams, i'm off to shovel slush...hope you found a few new plants today.

talk later

sue

winter white inside

the photo's on the cape cod winter post  had me looking for that same winter white inspiration inside the home....

here's a few rooms i love... and i think i've already moved in...i'm already decorating them with some favorite pieces i found...

this bowl would be perfect on that work table

the above group of rooms needed just a  few items ...

i definitely need this cozy throw for this amazing room

and don't you think this porcelain beaker is just about perfect for that table above

all the room photos, with their links can be found on my pinterest board,  click on the links below them.

and a big thank you,  to all my fellow etsy sellers for having such wonderful items for me to feature.

happy saturday everyone

sunday morning musings...(and a bit of news)

morning friends,

this week's place for sunday morning coffee is right here,  in my sun room.

it's sunny, warm & cozy in here...it's about 5 degrees outside...let's stay in and enjoy this room while we can...

which brings me to a bit of news i have for you ...  we are moving ...we are heading west...all the way west...
to  Portland Oregon!

that would be ALL of us...two households,  with 4 adults, 1 child, 1 dog.. and 2 shops,  solsticehome and trampoline.  we're joining our son and daughter who have lived in Portland for 3 yrs now.  it's time to reunite this family.

i couldn't be more excited and yes,  a little apprehensive about all the details. . i know it's not impossible and  i'm pretty sure  positive it will be very interesting  ;)

i've decided to write a weekly journal of our unfolding adventure.  i hope you'll follow along with me. i think i'll need some words of encouragement now and then.

enjoy your sunday everyone

where's your garden?

mine is covered under mounds of snow
with all this icy cold weather here on cape cod....i really can't wait for spring, warm earth and gardens.

photo taken at Green Briar Sandwich

for now i think we better find other ways to plant.

sunny windows (ones with potting tables under them..even better)

this image from my pinterest board
originally found on this lovely blog Made in Persbo,  you'll need to translate, but the photos are eye candy.

vintage containers,  part of the fun is coming up with the container.

try baking pans, bowls, cups..

yes, even lab glass,  or just about any that will hold a bit of soil and water.

well now,  if your lucky enough to have a greenhouse... i hope your enjoying it as much as this pup.

what about you, found any interesting containers you can plant?  please share some with us.

happy saturday all
