the old general store.. part 2..."the ladies"

this is part 2
of the old general store, one of the virtual rooms in my etsy shop

"the ladies,"  i imagine, would have had a special place they would head to after picking out the supplies that were needed for the week.

they would be drawn to the corner of the store displaying threads and notions. longingly they would touch each new material that had arrived that week.
soon,  they would start to gather around the wood stove to talk while they did their needlework.

part of the shop update this week will include some lovely items that i think belong in that room

soft and very slightly worn tapestry footstool
and this darling pair of little red leather shoes

black painted wood darner with such a lovely patina,  worn from the many times it was used

green marbled thread holder with the cutest red top and almost filled with its vintage threads

head or hat form with the most perfect robin eggs blue clamp

and this favorite of mine.
a sweet towel rack slightly aged, embroidered soft linen, with a silky backing

in case your new to my blog, this is my way of creating small vignettes or rooms in my etsy shop.

Thanks for visiting with me today
Sue

ps; all of the above items are heading to the shop soon...

the summer solstice...harness that sun!

 solstice

Sol + stice derives from a combination of Latin words meaning "sun" + "to stand still." As the days lengthen, the sun rises higher and higher until it seems to stand still in the sky.

Revellers dance in front of the stones as the midsummer sun rises just after dawn over the megalithic monument of Stonehenge. photo from the independent UK

As a major celestial event, the Summer Solstice results in the longest day and the shortest night of the year.

in between our celebrating, it's a good idea to think about ways to use that energy from the sun.

happily, there are some people and companies that are doing just that.. and in very stylish ways

Enjoy this wonderful time of year. Oh...and don't to enter the solstice giveaway! It's the last day!!

Happy Solstice Everyone

at the old general store... join me..

Recently, as i sorted through my inventory,  i realized i had many vintage items that reminded me...

of an old general store.  To me,  it would be the sound of footsteps on a wood floor, the warmth of a smile when you enter,  and a staggering variety of items.  Many of the items showing an aged patina that only comes from years of handling and being used.

I have more stock to be added. That means i'll have to add another room to this general store.

People would often gather at the store to gossip and socialize.  I thought it would be great to socialize with all of you and I'd love it if you would join me and add your items to this general store.

Do you have some old store finds that evoke this feeling?

Let's start with roughly the early 1900's and see if we can eventually bring this store through to mid century.

1. Write a blog post and link it to this post in comments . OR..

2. Send me a link to your photo and a short description. I'd be happy to add it to the general store for you.

Hope you'll join me!
Sue
ps; the above items will  be in my etsy shop soon.

"SellSimply is a new web site that is allowing me to have a simple shop and sell an item using my twitter account.  if you use twitter, you already know how easy that is.  your item, (with photos, if you prefer) reaches ..(who really knows how many people you reach on twitter. )

pin it forward; what home means to me

that lovely and talented victoria, otherwise known as sfgirlbybay, has done it again.
she's joined with pinterest, (a new web site that allows you to bookmark your favorites images on the web and keep them on a pin board.)  it's also where I'm having way too much fun lately!
together they've created a new blogger mashup, "pin it forward,"
with the theme; what home means to me..

first and foremost my home means... family.  wherever they are (and right now, that's coast to coast) it's where my heart and home is....they ground me, inspire me and wrap me in love

next up.. my home means,  being near the water and having some element of garden to play in.

finally,  i can then feel at home and ready to add the details....
it means;  simplicity to me, with whites and grays;  they calm me.
windows, doors, and lots of light spilling in; it fulfills my need to be connected to the outdoors.
collections, only in limited amounts and books.. stacks and stacks!

all of the photos above and more are on my home inspiration board at pinterest (including their links)
take a little visit over there...i know you'll become addicted too.

thank you  mariah from size to small for passing the pin to me.

be sure to visit all the lovely pin it forward posts going each day
i'm passing this on to http://thatsaturday.com/  go have another inspiring visit.

shop update

just a quick post today.
i'm working on my pin it forward post for tomorrow, but i have so many favorite finds just listed and coming soon to the shop.
I had to share a few with you.

coming soon;
a hand painted umbrella, wouldn't this be beautiful for the summer wedding decor

vintage quilt from intricately stitched small circles.  with its light weight and colors, it's perfect for summer

and this wood drying rack would be the perfect place to hang the quilt, or dry your linens

we all know about my addiction with boxes & cases.
i better put this old case in the shop soon, with it's worn feel & unusual shape, it's tugging me to keep it

the  industrial cage lantern is in the shop, only one, so don't wait too long

in the shop and the only one, vintage sea shell mirror, it's perfect to add a little beach to your home

oh, there's so many more.. and they'll have to wait for another day.

i'm off to work on my pin it forward post.  stop by tomorrow to see what inspires my home, and don't forget to visit some of the others posting today.

have a wonderful day everyone
sue
