forcing spring

today seems like a good day to bring a little spring in to the house.
let's trick mother nature a bit and force branches into bloom.

so today when your outside shoveling snow,  take a few minutes to look around the yard.  if there are newly fallen branches or some that are drooping from the snow weight, snip them and bring them in with you.
you'll be rewarded with spring blooms in a few weeks  and  in the meantime,  you can enjoy the sculptural art that natural branches create.

pussy willow and forsythia can be started now.

a couple of tips to remember;
try to cut the branches at the warmest time of the day  and  if the branches have already fallen, make a fresh, clean cut on them.

also, when reading through the garden catalogs and sketching your planting plan for spring,  pencil in early-flowering trees and shrubs.  next year you'll have even more branches to enjoy.

may the force be with you today ;)

in & about...

yes,  there's another blizzard on cape cod today.

i thought it would be a good day to stay in and  share a few of the favorite corners of my home

one,  is this little olive green vintage table by the door.  i love the color and i'm such a gatherer this is a perfect place for me to put the bits and pieces i find on my walks.

another is the  fireplace mantel. this year for christmas i decorated with natural objects such as pine cones and driftwood and i'm so happy i did.  i found i could keep many of them up when all the other christmas decorations were taken down.

and the bay window in the living room is now holding plants and antique garden objects, shiny and light,  they brighten things up and remind me spring will eventually come (soon i hope!)

do you have favorite corners of your home?  i'd love it,  if you would share them with me.

think spring people!

today it's an around the world daydream. somewhere it's warm and sunny...because, i could really use some sun and sand right about now.

a little of this..a little of that

hi there
sorry, i've been MFB (missing from blog) this past week.  i'll admit i've spent some fun time with my grandson (you know how much I enjoy my time with him) and i did manage to head to the beach a few times..a little too few.

mostly i've been getting together some new things for fall in the shop. here's a little peek of what will be showing up very soon.

and for back to school and work (yes, i know i hate the thought of it too) but i guess it's coming anyway so i'm gathering some cool vintage to help make the transition a little easier.

oh and a little project i'm working on...something i've wanted to do for awhile
is to create an occasional solsticehome original from found objects.

the first one is a fun combination of an antique washer and an industrial clamp light.
meet the "farmhouse industrial lamp"

i hope you like it.

i have been a busy girl, haven't i ;)

have a lovely friday everyone
